Aftercare & Liability

Last updated: June 18, 2026 · Inked by Rackz · Downtown Hagerstown, MD

Important Notice

A tattoo is a permanent body modification and a wound that requires proper care to heal correctly. Failure to follow these instructions may result in poor healing, color loss, or infection — none of which are covered under touch-up guarantees.

1. Immediate Aftercare (Hours 0–24)

Henrry J. will cover your tattoo before you leave. Follow these steps:

  • Leave the bandage on for 2–4 hours (up to 24 hrs for Saniderm/second-skin)
  • Wash with lukewarm water and unscented antibacterial soap (e.g., Dial Gold)
  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel — do not rub
  • Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion (Lubriderm, Aveeno) or Aquaphor

2. First Week (Days 2–7)

  • Wash gently 2–3 times daily with unscented soap
  • Moisturize 2–3 times daily — thin layers only
  • Some redness, swelling, and peeling is normal — do not pick or scratch
  • Avoid submerging in water (baths, pools, ocean) — showers are fine
  • Wear loose clothing over the tattoo and avoid direct sun

3. Weeks 2–4 (Full Healing)

  • Continue moisturizing daily until fully healed (usually 2–4 weeks)
  • Cloudiness during peeling is temporary and normal
  • Once healed, apply SPF 30+ sunscreen whenever exposed to sun
  • Full deep healing takes 2–3 months

4. Signs of Infection

See a medical professional immediately if you notice:

  • Excessive redness, swelling, or warmth worsening after 3 days
  • Yellow or green discharge
  • Fever, chills, or red streaks radiating from the tattoo
  • Severe or increasing pain

Do not attempt to treat a suspected infection at home.

5. Health Contraindications

Please disclose any of the following before your appointment:

  • Blood clotting disorders or use of blood thinners
  • Diabetes, autoimmune conditions, or compromised immune system
  • Active skin conditions at the tattoo site (eczema, psoriasis, active acne)
  • History of keloid scarring or allergies to ink, latex, or topical anesthetics
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Heart conditions, pacemaker, HIV/AIDS, or Hepatitis

Withholding relevant medical information releases Inked by Rackz from liability for related complications.

6. Touch-Up Policy

Henrry J. stands behind the quality of the work. If a fully healed tattoo (minimum 6–8 weeks post-session) shows significant ink loss due to the application process, a complimentary touch-up consultation will be offered.

Touch-ups are not provided for: ink loss from improper aftercare, natural fading over time, high-wear placements (fingers, palms, feet), or design changes after the session.

7. Photo Release

By receiving services from Inked by Rackz, you grant Henrry J. permission to photograph the completed tattoo and share images on social media and the studio website for portfolio purposes. Only the tattoo and surrounding area will be shown — your identity will not be disclosed without explicit consent. Notify Henrry J. in writing before your session if you do not wish your work to be shared.

8. Liability Waiver

By receiving services from Inked by Rackz, you acknowledge that:

  • Tattooing is a permanent body modification and you accept full responsibility for your decision
  • You have disclosed all relevant health conditions and are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • You have reviewed and agree to follow the aftercare instructions provided
  • Inked by Rackz is not liable for complications from undisclosed health conditions or failure to follow aftercare
  • You are 18 years of age or older (or accompanied by a consenting parent/guardian)

A physical liability waiver will be provided for your signature at the time of your appointment.
